The Holiday Season is upon us, and we are looking forward to the celebrations that will fill our schedules and the joy that will fill the air. No matter which Holiday you’ll be celebrating this month, making a plan to stay healthy can keep you on track. We’ve gathered some tips to help you keep your goals in mind while still allowing you to enjoy the magic of the season.
Keep in mind that the studio will close for the Holidays on December 19th, and will reopen on January 2nd. Keep up your workouts and healthy habits, and we will see you again when it’s time to crush those New Year goals.
 

Exercise of the Month

This month, we’ve got a challenge to keep you motivated and moving through this cozy Holiday season. Aim to complete each of the following exercises 10 times, and complete three sets total (or try to complete 5 for an added challenge). After finishing, take a ten-minute walk around the neighborhood, down the beach, or on the bridge.

  • Jumping Jacks
  • Squats
  • Lunges
  • 30 Second Plank
  • Wall Push-Ups

As you complete this workout, aim to push yourself further each day. How many of each exercise can you do, and how many rounds can you complete? If you begin by completing three rounds, try to reach four or five by the end of the season. Are your planks completed on your knees or feet? Can you keep your arms bent with your weight resting on your elbows, or do you need to move up to your hands? Challenge yourself to improve in one or more of these areas throughout the season.


Healthy Holiday Drinks

Over the next month, you may find yourself tempted to indulge in a variety of delicious Holiday drinks. However, most of these beverages contain a high number of empty calories without much nutritional value. Try this Cranberry Mojito to enjoy sipping Holiday flavor while staying on track with your wellness goals at the same time.

Cranberry Mojito

  • ¼ Cup of Cranberry Juice
  • ¼ Cup of Sparkling Water
  • 1 oz. of White Rum (or your choice of vodka or gin)
  • 2 tsp. Of Coconut Sugar
  • Juice from 1 Lime Wedge
  • 3-5 Mint Leaves
  • Ice

Combine the liquid ingredients in a glass and pour over ice. Garnish with mint leaves and enjoy!

Holiday Events

This time of year is filled with traditions and celebrations that bring joy to all who attend. Below are some upcoming events that will bring you and your family the magic of the Holiday season.

41st Annual Holiday Night of Lights on St. Armands

This festival kicks off St. Armands’ holiday season and is filled with all of your favorite holiday entertainment. Make a dinner reservation at a nearby restaurant in advance, and follow your meal with a tree lighting ceremony at 5:30 pm and a photo with Santa for the kids from 6:30-8:00. The event takes place on the evening of December 6th.

 

Lights in Bloom at Selby

The Marie Selby Botanical Gardens will be decked out with over 2 million lights and Holiday decorations from December 16th through January 4th. You can also enjoy visits with Santa through Christmas Eve, as well as nightly entertainment, crafts, and games for the kids. This is an event you won’t want to miss.

 

Boat Parade of Lights

Something about being on the water makes the lights even more special. Enjoy this Holiday Parade from the Bay Front Park, Marina Jack Restaurant, or City Island on December 14th at 6 pm.
