Exercise Of The Month: Wall Sit
This lower-body strengthener is the glue holding all the previous Exercise of the Month routines together. It takes pressure off the back (where it has settled after years of bad posture) and puts pressure on the legs and hips where it belongs. Here’s how to do it:
- Stand up straight with your lower back against a wall.
- Slowly walk your feet forward.
- Keeping your feet pointing straight ahead and hip-width apart, slide down the wall until your knees are at a 90-degree angle.
- Press your lower back into the wall by shifting your weight off your toes to your heels.
- Relax your abs and shoulders as you feel your thighs burn.
- Beginners should hold the position for 30 to 45 seconds and repeat 2 to 4 times. If you’re at an intermediate level, try holding for 45 seconds to 1 minute and repeat 2 to 4 times. Those who are advanced should hold for 1 to 2 minutes and repeat 2 to 4 times.
With this simple exercise, you’ll work your quads, glutes, hip flexors and hamstrings. So what are you waiting for? Get to it!
What Are You Made Of?
Drum roll please! This month, we’re introducing the InBody 570, a body composition analyzer that goes way beyond traditional body composition analysis. This assessment not only analyzes how much fat and muscle you have but also your total body water, intracellular water and extracellular water. These values are important metrics used to understand someone’s fluid distribution in medical, wellness and fitness contexts. So schedule your InBody assessment today and be armed with a wealth of knowledge.
Welcome Spring With These Essentials
The birds are chirping, the snow has melted (well, maybe not in Sarasota) and spring is officially here. It’s a wonderful season to get outdoors and garden, hike or cycle, but if you’re one of the many allergy sufferers out there, you’ll want to have some natural remedies on hand. Here are two essential oils that will help you combat those pesky allergies:
Peppermint works as a natural decongestant to alleviate nasal and sinus congestion. And unlike most essential oils, peppermint oil can be applied directly to the skin without a carrier oil. But keep in mind, a little goes a long way – this oil leaves an intensely cooling sensation on the skin. Use a single drop under your nose to help sinuses drain or apply a couple drops to your temples to alleviate sinus headaches. Then wash your hands and avoid touching your eyes.
Eucalyptus is an excellent expectorant that helps clear sinus and lung congestion. It’s particularly effective at alleviating stuffed nasal passageways. Just place a few drops on a tissue and inhale deeply for five to ten minutes. Or put the oil in an aromatherapy diffuser to help with allergy congestion. Some people can handle a drop of eucalyptus oil neat (undiluted) on the palm of their hands, but you can also dilute it in a carrier oil if you have sensitive skin.
