March is here — a new season filled with warmer weather is just around the corner, St Patrick’s Day is just waiting to be celebrated, and the time change is almost ready to bring extra light to our days. Let’s take this new beginning to start our healthiest month yet.


Exercise of the Month 

How to make March your healthiest month yet...with exercise! Here are some arm exercises to get you started.

Arms are a tough spot for everyone, especially as we grow older. Luckily, a few simple exercises can help tone up the look of that underarm skin and lead to a stronger version of yourself, too:

  • Bicep Curls

  • Tricep Kickbacks
  • Scaption Shoulder Raises

A Simple, Savory Slow Cooker Meal 

Let the crockpot do the work for you on your busiest days. This Corned Beef and Cabbage recipe is quick, nutritious, and delicious:


Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds of corned beef brisket (trim the fat off before cooking)
  • 1 cup of frozen pearl onions
  • 2 medium parsnips, peeled and chopped
  • 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
  • 1 small head of cabbage, cut into 6 pieces
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley
  • 2 C. buttermilk
  • 1/8 teaspoon of fresh peppercorn 

Instructions:

  • Place beef, onions, parsnips, carrots, and seasonings into your crockpot with 3 cups of water and cook on 'high' for 4 hours
  • Add cabbage and cook for another 1 hour and 20 minutes
  • Remove meat, slice and enjoy!

Selby Gardens is at it again with an exhibit you won’t want to miss. This display will showcase a few of Lichtenstein’s lesser-known pieces — each of which was inspired by Monet’s incredible works of art. Selby Gardens’ Japanese bridge, trellis, and benches will make an outstanding background for the already-beautiful display.


Rise and Run 5K with Sarasota Military Academy

Get up and at it in the early hours of Saturday, March 27th with Sarasota Military Academy’s JROTC Raider’s team. Support this group of hard-working kids and grow closer to your fitness goals at the same time. Awards are presented in each age group for an added dose of friendly competition.
